According to the International Association of Police Chiefs we should have 2.5 officers for every 1000 citizens in the larger cities like Charlotte. We have about 650 thousand people just in Charlotte and not in the County. Therefore we should have 1625 or so just for the city and a lot more for the county. That would send the number way up. We have less than 1200 for the whole city and county coverage. Note I am talking about Officers who actually patrol. Yes we have the smaller towns with their own Police force but that was out of necessity with the lack of coverage from the city. Mint Hill is an excellent example that crime can be put under control if the citizens demand it. I don't know the exact numbered but I know you can count me in as one of those new police officers that were hired, my packet went to the civil service board on tuesday and I got the call first thing Wednesday on the details. A Little back ground on my safe I have only visited the Charlotte area once and I liked what I saw the weather is great down there I am from IL and have been stationed up at Fort Drum, NY for the past 5 years and also as we speak it is -22 degrees out side so I am looking forward to leaving this area. I look forward to serving the Charlotte area.

Yes, you will like it overall here. It is a good place to live. Plenty of things to do like parks, entertainment and not far from the beach, mountains, and other places of interest. Charlotte and the surrounding area has been good to me, so I try to give back as I am involved in several local charities.
