Man throws children from bridge in Alabama. Mother in DC kills her four children. Union County Mother kills her daughter then self. Now a man has thrown a baby from a bridge in Hawaii. I am sure there are more such head lines I have left out. What is going on? Has some dramatic change in the moral and ethical attitude taken place? Why are people killing their children, their own children? Each day or two there seems to be a new tragedy added to this growing list of death. Has anyone got an idea or opinion why this upswing in child killings? I find it all very distressing.

Clearly these people are thinking straight to begin with. Kind of an oxymoron to try and guess about their rationale (since they aren't thinking rationally), but these people are definately going to kill themselves, and they think they are doing the children a favor by taking them out to so they won't have to grow up without a father/mother, etc. Another potential reason is usually they are involved in a divorce, and it's a way to hurt the surviving spouse. I'll show you, I'll kill little billy and betty and then myself. That will teach you a lesson.
I think it's also a by-product of the information age. I don't think there is an upswing, but rather the dramatic ways people are carrying out these killings that is getting the media's attention and being broadcast. Throwing off a bridge is much more sensationalized by the media than shooting or strangling the children within the confines of your home. Clearly the end results are a tragedy but the bridge factor allows the media to sell more stories, so they will play up the more unique circumstances.
Just like the current manhunt for the Marine that killed the pregnant Marine. The media loves the fact that the guy burned and buried the body in his backyard. It's more or less the details of the crime rather than the crime itself is what gets your attention and sells in the media.

I can see your point. I should have also asked could this be a lack of mental health care on a basic level?
