CMPD's Homicide Unit has a new tip line that will make it easier to give and get information on homicide investigations. The new number is 704.432.TIPS (704.432.8477.)
Following a homicide, the lead detective in the case will answer that line 24/7. A victim's family members, friends or neighbors - anyone who may have information - can call in and speak to that detective. Police want the TIPS line to more directly connect the community to the investigative process. Individuals can also call Crime Stoppers - 704.334.1600.
CMPD has added new features on the Homicide Unit's webpages, too. The completely redesigned site provides easy access to information on open cases detectives are working to identify, apprehend and prosecute those who commit murder.
New features include:
- An FAQ page about what to expect from homicide detectives during the investigative process
- E-mail addresses and phone numbers for all members of the Homicide Unit
- Links to sites offering family support services and counseling providers
- Synopses of open case investigations that provide the victim's name, location of the occurrence and the lead investigator's contact information
- Names and photographs of persons wanted for Murder
- Highlights of several cold cases
