What are police doing about the crime rate uptown? First, I have to say Uptown is not 'crime infested' as people outside Uptown think. So, what can we do about the reputation Uptown has of being so dangerous?
My suggestions:
1. Ask local news not to describe EVERYTHING that happens in Charlotte as "Uptown" or "near Uptown." Cotswold is not UPTOWN, for example.
2. COMPLETELY control Uptown during July 4 celebrations and New Years Eve celebrations. Why can't local politicians and leaders make severe penalties for disrupting Uptown, since it is near goverment buildings, jail, federal buildings, federal reserve and national banking institutions? Makes sense to me that it should be VERY safe Uptown. Also, throwing ANYTHING at a police officer should be 5 years mandatory jail time. (sorry but my father was a cop, shot three times and I know the dangers of police work.)
3. Discontinue the borders of Central police district as it is and make in ONLY with the boundary of I-77, and I-277. ONLY within this boundary is Central.
Just some suggestions. I feel these would work out well. I also think Chief Stephens needs to toughen up his demeanor. He may be the man for the job but he needs to cultivate the appearance of tough law man. He seems more like a junior high school science teacher. Don't mean to be insulting to anyone, just making a point.
thanks
