What happened to the drunk tank at the jail? Everyday the same people wondering around up town bombed out of there minds. Begging for money. No one wants to take them in because its so much of a pain. What do you think?

There is no drunk tank at the jail any longer. Sometimes they will lock someone up to "sober" them up, but other than that, unless they are being disorderly and disruptive, then the police dont mess with them.

The reason they let them alone is that being drunk is now a illness.
Only if they are so drunk they might hurt themselves will they then take these poor souls to a rehabilitation station (a rhyme every time).
Drug addicts are living under their illness.
In fact everything is now an illness.
Children not wanting to pay attention in school is now an illness.
Calling everything an illness means we do not have to accept responsibility for anything we do and everybody can feel good about themselves.

The Mecklenburg County Intake Center (unfortunately) does not have a "drunk tank". All subjects needing to "sleep it off" are transported to Billingsley's Detox. Center, at the tax-payer's expense of coarse. All transports are also voluntary, as forcing the inebriated subject to be admitted would constitue an arrest and would need to be upheld by exigient circumstances or non-voluntary commitment procedures issued by the Magistrate.

Just to clarify - the detox center on Billingsley is run by Mecklenburg County, not by CMC.
