I'm not trying to defend the Observer but I would like people to understand how difficult it is to get info from CMPD! On a daily basis, I write to the media contact at the department for more information on reported crimes and rarely do I get a response. It is very frustrating since I believe the public has the right to know about things happening in our city. I understand CMPD cannot give out all the information about a particular crime but I will be the first to say it is like pulling teeth sometimes. I do plan on discussing this problem with the police chief when I get the chance.

Did you see WBTV last night at 11pm? They used the Crime in Charlotte website extensively for a crime report on MySpace gangstas and never gave you credit! You work hard on this site, the least they could do is give credit where credit is due!!!! Keep up the good work!

Yes, I saw that. The reporter actually contacted me and told me he was doing a story on my MySpace/YouTube info I published. I thought they would have given me credit, but they didn't...

The house across the street from me has frequent visits by CMPD, Sheriffs office, & animal control(they have 3 pitbulls). Can I, as John Q Public go to a public web site and see why they are visiting so much?

The problem with crime reporting in Charlotte is that the Observe rarely gives us the name of the judge involved in a case. We just read that "the judge" gave some criminal a slap on the wrist or some low bail. State judges in North Carolina are elected officials. We don't know who to vote for or against if the daily newspaper doesn't tell us what type of job they are doing. Sure, The Observer reported judges who weren't enforcing DWI laws, but thats just the tip of the iceberg. We must INSIST that The Observer give us the name of the judge in all cases reported. If they do 't, call them on the phone and ask why.

What is the matter with the following!! RAPE REPORTED NEAR UNC CHARLOTTE (per news 14) "If we can put one person away that's done this to 10 ladies, or one robber away that's robbed 10 people, it's greatly going to reduce crime," said Laura Nelson, of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department." It looks like she is taking in consideration of how many times they will have to arrest someone before a judge will actuall put them away! Mikey
