Crime in charlotte is increasing faster than the police can keep up with it....oh sorry wait, the Police in charlotte are not keeping up with crime because the chief has them so afraid to do there jobs. When you take the power to police away from the police, you will get crime. when the chief ( I use lower case letters for that intentionally), gives the thugs more freedom and rights than his own officers, crime increases. "Hug a thug" will never work! My heart goes out to CMPD street officers, You guys live in fear of your jobs, your lives, your career. The thugs know you arent allowed to do your jobs. The Chief has castrated the police department. If people want crime in charlotte to go down get a chief with a set of balls, who isnt afriad to offend people, who lets officers patrol, who lets officers respond to calls for help and make arrests.

Sorry slappy, but the crime problem we have in Charlotte does not rest on the police chief's shoulders. The blame rests solely on the criminals themselves who choose to live outside the law and destroy the lives of innocent tax-paying victims. The police risk their lives every minute to go out and round up the thugs, only to have the vermin released to the street to continue their assault on society. There are not enough prosecutors, police officers, judges or jails to keep our city safe, but we do have a light-rail system and beautiful tree-lined streets. At least we LOOK good! What Charlotte needs is more than an image uplift. Charlotte needs MORE police officers, judges, jails and prosecuters. Charlotte's rising crime rate and gang presence is more than the police chief's fault. It's gonna take more than a village to fix this mess here.

A very good point lookinglass. I cannot argue or disagree with the fact we need more officers, more prosecutors, and more jail space. On the fourth of july, the police department made a great statement, not in words but in action. Downtown was safe for a nite. Yes these vermin are released back into society to commit more crimes, often times im sure the same day. The arresting officer just finishes his report at intake and drives past the scumbag while pulling out of the sally port. I know many officers and am proud to call them friends. I know officers who have been reprimanded for doing there jobs, because someone called and complained. It is a tough job, reading your post i am assuming you are in the public saftey field. Be Safe if you are not you should be, or at least a politician fighting for the improvements we need. either way be safe and thank you for a calming post to one of my often times emotional rants

Thank you for your support, but in fact I am not in public office or public safety. I am into personal safety as I was a crime victim. I was carjacked by Joshua Ryder and the prosecutor in Charlotte let him go, despite having very good evidence and ability to convict. Joshua Ryder is in jail now, still awaiting trial on several more crimes, which I told the prosecutor would occur if they let him out on the street. All the victims of Joshua Ryders' malevolence can thank the D.A.'s office, the Mayor, the city council and the thugs themselves for the lack of justice. Tree-lined streets are useless if people aren't safe to walk them. Our city needs to focus on what really matters, or the image they are trying to project will be meaningless when the taxpayers head for the outlying communities, taking their tax base with them.
