I discovered a great site if you are interested in listening to a scanner with CMPD, Medic and Charlotte Fire. Go to: metro-uhf.org/cmpdring.htmland click on Charlotte-Mecklenburg Trunked System encoded in streamed MP3. The live stream will open in Windows Media Player. Tell me what you think!

Neat site for sure. There is about a 15 second delay between the live broadcast and what we hear on the web site.

Oncrime,
I see from the article you are in the market for a scanner. If you need any help give me a shout, I've been into that for about 35 years now. I currently monitor the Charlotte TRS regularly. It's a large system and takes some work to get set up. Depending on what radio you get I may have files you can load directly. That will save you all the programming by hand.

FYI: It is a misdemeanor to have a police scanner in one's vehicle and is a chargeable offense.
PS: the 10-codes list is out of date by appx 3-4 years.

Pacino- I can't find any NC law saying you cannot have a scanner in your vehicle. I saw a law pertaining to cab drivers not being allowed to have a scanner in the car. Where did you get this information? Thanks.

Tom, the city ordinance language is as follows (misdemeanor with mandatory appearance):
(equip)(operate inside the city) a motor vehicle with a high frequency police radio (transmitter)(receiving set). Sec.15-52.

Are you having problems finding the site or opening the scanner in your media player?

I Love this stream line. One question,Is my listening blocking any emergency use of it. Thanks No, I don't think it interferes with anything because you are listening to a delayed broadcast of a live scanner. I'd say interfering would be going to the scene or to try & get involved somehow where you could put yourself at risk... (i.e., chasing a suspect yourself or something of that nature)
