I received a few e-mails today with people asking what happened to the woman this morning who died on I-485 westbound. I know there was a lot of speculation about what happened to her.
Here is the media release CMPD sent out this afternoon:
On Tuesday, 11/14/2006, at 6:34 AM, Matthews Police received a call for service in reference to a Pedestrian struck on I-485 West Bound at the Weddington Road Overpass. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The location of occurrence was determined to be in the jurisdiction of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. CMPD Homicide Detectives responded to conduct the investigation with assistance from the State Highway Patrol and Matthews PD.
It is believed based on the information obtained during the investigation, including statements from witnesses, that the victim jumped from the overpass. The victim was struck by at least one vehicle after the fall. The victim has been identified and family notification has been made.
We typically do not release Media Briefings on Suicides and for that reason will not be releasing the name of the victim.
