Pay attention, folks. Here's the deal with school buses. I have noticed that even the bus drivers themselves don't know the law so.... If there's a stopped school bus in your direction of travel with its red lights flashing and stop sign out, you always have to stop. No exceptions. That's simple, no? Here's where it gets cloudy for most folks. Divided highway of four lanes or more with a median separation: When school bus stops for passengers, only traffic following the bus must stop. Two-lane roadway: When school bus stops for passengers, all traffic from both directions must stop. Four-lane roadway without a median separation: When school bus stops for passengers, all traffic from both directions must stop. And this is the one that most people just simply do not get. I work on a street like this and people who follow the law are constantly beeped at by the bus drivers who don't even know the law. Roadway of four lanes or more with a center turning lane: When school bus stops for passengers, only traffic following the bus must stop. A "median separation" is defined as a physical barrier. "Jersey" barriers, grass medians, concrete medians all are considered to be medians. Hope that clears things up for you folks.

Thank you for posting this SKNL2! It is frustrating driving when other people on the road don't know what the laws are! Two things that bother me the most are drivers not using blinkers and people not moving over for emergency vehicles. Link: Families for Roadside Safety: www.f-o-r-s.com/mainsite/index.html

I wonder why I get honked at by the bus drivers on Monroe Rd in the morning? It has the turn lane separating the two lanes. I thought I could go but the bus driver honked at me like crazy. Now I stop.
