Shortly after moving down here I received a speeding ticket in the parking lot of the Matthews Post Office. As some of you may be aware, the speed limit in downtown Matthews is 25 MPH. Being from NY, we use speed limits as a "guideline". Be it right or wrong, after that ticket I became acutely aware of the speed limits and police cars. The point here is that I feel an inordinate amount of police resources are being used to ticket people doing 40 in a 25 zone, instead of doing actual police work, i.e., arresting drug dealers, stopping home invasions, etc. I am in Matthews on a regular basis. Every time I am there I see police cars just sitting, waiting for some poor idiot that's doing 40. Before I get a bunch of replies on how I am now a reformed speeder due to that ticket, let me say that I would rather see more speeding and less actual crime. You guys don't have the resources down here to monitor both.

How do you know that these police are only stopped there looking for speeders? I happen to know that the Matthews Police Dept is made up of dedicated people who do A LOT in the community to help with the crimes that go on there. Just them being present helps reduce crime.
I manager a business in Matthews. Last month when I called the police about a suspicious person they were there in 2 minutes flat. Parked along the road, SO WHAT. They sure have helped me many times when I called.
