As for felons in the Section 8 program, they are supposed to be denied if they have been charged with a felony within the past 7 years. The police are not very educated on rental laws. A lot of landlords that are, would rather let things slide than do their job. Either for fear or laziness. The owners only want money no matter what it takes to get it. Applicants are not properly investigated before the taxpayers keep them up. It should be for the elderly or very diabled people only. There are jobs everywhere but laziness and/or drug dealing is easier. One strike and they should be out but who is enforcing the law? I am a landlord. The police officers do not correctly know the tenant/landlord laws. The other problem getting these types of people out of your neighborhood is the law of this state. The law gives the tenant too much time before they can be evicted. A person can pay rent four times a year and mooch off the owners the rest of the time. This state needs to compare it's laws to other states. In Georgia it takes one week to get rid of a bad tenant. NC needs to shorten the time. All counties need to put all evictions online so landlords can look up applicants and refuse to rent to them. This would force them out of the city and help lower the crime. If anyone making decisions for Charlotte had any common sense, a big jail should have been built first instead of a state of the art courthouse. Then there are the judges that give the criminals a pat on the back. Check out Coweta County in Georgia. You get into trouble and you are history. They let you sit in jail until they get ready to give you a bond. The prisons here are no better. I know a guy that went to prison for a year. He said it was so good that he didn't care if he went back. We need change. There should be a law against the kids wearing the baggy pants. It's easy for them to hide a weapon. Parents should also be fined every time their kid gets into trouble. All the crime starts in the home. The parents are the teachers. I do know for a fact that some that have been ordered to take classes by the courts didn't take the classes. Nothing was ever done. This is because the workers at the courthouse are not doing their jobs following up. Getting back to housing and section 8, a lot of people are milking the system. I know one that told me all her secrets on how to get anything. She even faked illness, borrowed a walker and went to court as if she couldn't walk without it to get her disability. She gets housing and food stamps, too. Can she work? Yes. So folks, you see a problem, start writing your congressmen, governor, police chief, etc. Petition for changes. Petition for lower taxes as this would relieve a lot of people.
