Based on the recent revelation that Demetrius was listening to rap music in the hours prior to the shooting. What do you guys think about rap music and violence on television and the realtionship it has to actual violence?

Once again, people are responsible for their actions. Ozzy wasn't responsible for John McCollum shooting himself with a .22 cal. on 10/26/84, after McCollum repeatedly listened to several of Osbourne’s albums: "Blizzard of Ozz", "Diary of a Madman", and "Speak of the Devil".
Neither was Judas Priest at fault for the double-suicide "death pact" of Raymond Belknap, 18, and James Vance, 20, in 1985 after listening to Priest's album "Stained Class".
"In the case of Brandenburg v. Ohio, the U. S. Supreme Court held that expression advocating violent or otherwise illegal behavior only loses First Amendment protection if the expression is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless behavior, and is likely to result in such action" (The Thomas Jefferson Center, 2005).

"America today is capable of terrific intolerance about smoking, or toxic waste that threatens trout. But only a deeply confused society is more concerned about protecting lungs than minds, trout than black women. We legislate against smoking in restaurants; singing "Me So Horny" is a constitutional right. Secondary smoke is carcinogenic; celebration of torn vagina is 'mere words.'" -- George Will
The America of Today Mr. Will wrote those words about was 1990...17 years ago. Perhaps if we had heeded his warning, we could have prevented our "slow slide into the sewer" and the death of two brave Charlotte police officers.
Of course criminals are responsible for their actions, and should be punished accordingly, but we no longer have time for the nonsensical belief that rap music is not a pernicious influence on society. Our streets are overflowing with blood.

the rap music culture does portray money, drugs, and bling. it is the parents fault for not explaining bling and money is most important in life. education is most important. stop spending thousands on gold grills and stay in school!
do we let our young girls watch the movie pretty woman and tell them to become a prostitute in case they meet a rich man? no!!
