Although I grew up in Charlotte, I now live in west Tennessee with my family.
I've been doing jail ministry with women inmates in my local county jail for several months, and I am seeing that drugs is the #1 problem for these women. Many are GLAD to have become incarcerated--they are happy that their arrest stopped them from abusing drugs, and took them away from their peer group.
I don't see our current criminal system helping criminals rehabilitate or overcome their criminal habits. After jail time it is too easy to return to the old bad habits. There just are not enough Christian halfway houses...at least where I live...
