I'm hoping someone can shed some light on why she was fired. It seems to me if the officer whose actions with the Taser at Food Lion actually took the life of a teenager was only suspended for five days that certainly the firing of Officer Curlee was a bit much. After all the man that she attempted to stop continued to break the law and though he was injured by her actions he was not killed. He was after all, breaking the law - I'm not sure that he didn't get what he deserved. I, of course, am unaware of all of the details but I feel for her. She must have spent quite a lot of time preparing to become a police officer, something she must have been committed to, only to get fired when she made a mistake that did not end up taking a life. I think as citizens of Mecklenburg county we should do what we can to make sure our officers, who are willing to put their lives on the line for us, are treated properly and fairly. I'm wondering if her firing was fair.

Because you cannot shoot an unarmed person. If you do, you need to be humble and acknowledge that you messed up. Reaching and not showing your hands is not a threat that justifies deadly force.

CMPD can fire her for any reason it wants. Ofc. Curlee was on probation. Once off probation, she gets civil service review ability. But personally, yes I think it was fair she was fired.
